The International School of Düsseldorf e.V. (ISD) was founded in 1968. Since then, we aim to inspire our students to be confident, creative and critical thinkers. In 1976, we were among the first International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools and currently are also accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and by the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Our innovative teaching methodology is underpinned by an extensive professional development programme and small classes.

Our language of instruction is English and our curriculum is centered around the International Baccalaureate programmes and the IB Learner’s Profile.  We proudly view ourselves as an international community of learners and put a strong emphasis on inhttp://wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Senior-School-Profile.pdfquiry. Our students are guided to take responsibility for their own learning while we provide great care in preparing them for university studies.

We teach many foreign languages like German, French, Spanish, and Japanese. English-as-an additional language (EAL) is offered in all grades and our first language (mother tongue) programme is available in many different languages.  We also have a strong sports and extra-curricular programme, including drama, music, visual arts, and much more.

At ISD, we have creative, enthusiastic and committed faculty and staff who work together to challenge and support our students to be successful and responsible in an evolving world. We currently employ 151 faculty members (139 full-time equivalent) from 30 countries.

Our 10-acre campus includes eclectic and attractive senior school and elementary school buildings. Several purpose-built playgrounds serve the recreational needs of younger and older students. A strong outdoor learning programme (OLE) has transformed our green areas into exciting learning gardens. Our senior sports and community center houses several modern practice courts for basketball or volleyball, 2 competition-size basketball courts, and inviting seating possibilities for spectators. ISD also has 3 libraries, 7 science laboratories, 5 computer rooms, a well-equipped design technology room, centers of excellence for the visual and performing arts, a 350-seat theater and 3 cafeterias. Just a short walk from our campus are the ISD sports fields which host many national and international teams.
