Numicon Workshop

The International School of Düsseldorf (ISD) is an ‘IB World School’ founded in 1968.  ISD has a strong reputation for excellence and innovation. In April 2015, the first ISD Professional Learning Institute happened, which created an excellent forum for teachers to share their innovative practices in teaching and learning. One innovation that was uncovered at the inaugural Professional Learning Institute was the trialling, and significant success of the ISD elementary school mathematical program attributed in part to a Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) approach to teaching of mathematics with the support of Numicon materials and resources. Numicon was attributed to helping students see underlying patterns of math and make numbers real.
