Praktikum

At ISD, we offer a unique programme to our international students which is called the “Praktikum”. In local German schools, a Praktikum is a required part of the traditional curriculum (“berufsvorbereitendes Praktikum”) and is intended to provide students with insights into the business world by working for local employers.

We consider this is an important experience for adolescents in their search for professional and personal identities and have therefore adopted the Praktikum into our curriculum. At the end of grade 10, students undertake a 2-week Praktikum with the objectives to:

  • grow awareness and knowledge about future career possibilities
  • develop skills and social competencies which are necessary in a professional environment
  • network and connect with business contacts

In preparation for the Praktikum, students are instructed in their language classes about CV and application letter writing. As students undertake their Praktikum, we provide supervision to ensure a positive learning experience and support when questions or concerns arise.

We are fortunate to have connections to more than 90 companies and businesses in Düsseldorf and its surroundings. With their help, we are able to provide students with a diverse offer of placements in national and international businesses.

In some cases, the match of certain students to a company is so successful that students are invited back by those companies to start their careers with them after completing their IB.
