International Baccalaureate World School
ISD is an IB World School, certified to offer all three IB Programmes:
We have a wealth of experience teaching the IB programme and can look back at a long-standing history with the International Baccalaureate Organization. Back in 1976, we were one of the first schools in the world to offer the IB Diploma Programme. Fewer than 70 schools worldwide were authorized by the IBO at that time. Today, there are more than 4,000 IB World Schools.
Obtaining IB World School status involves an initial authorization process in each programme and regular five year reviews.
The IB programme is the most widely used programme in international schools and the IB Diploma is highly regarded by universities around the world.
“The IB aspires to help schools develop well-rounded students with character: students who can respond to challenges with optimism and an open-mind; students confident in their own identities; students who make ethical decisions; students who join with others in celebrating our common humanity; students who are prepared to apply what they learn in real world, complex and unpredictable situations.” [Education For a Better World, International Baccalaureate Organization]
At ISD, we are proud of the achievement of our students. They consistently reach scores above the worldwide averages, both in individual subjects and for the Diploma overall. In 2016, our students’ average diploma score was 34 points. The world average was 30 points.
In addition to the IB Diploma, students may also obtain the German degree of “Abitur” which is needed for admission to German universities. For this, students must follow very specific guidelines when choosing their DP courses that will enable their IB Diploma to be recognized as an equivalent to the Abitur. Our university counsellors have in-depth knowledge of the IB programme as well as the requirements of the German education system, and are happy to provide individualized support to anyone interested in this option.
