Middle Years Programme
All students in grades 6-10 are part of our IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). Our aim is to work together with students to inspire and challenge them to become caring, critical and reflective thinkers who can help shape a better and more peaceful world.
We offer students a broad and balanced curriculum that emphasizes intellectual challenge and encourages students to make connections between their studies and the wider world.
Students in grades 6-10 take the following subjects:
- Mathematics (beginning in grade 9, this is divided into standard and extended)
- Physical and health education
- Design (product and digital)
- Language and literature (English, German, Japanese)
- Sciences (integrated biology, chemistry, physics)
- Individuals and societies (integrated humanities)
- Arts, including visual art, drama and music (in grades 6 – 8, students take all three arts, in grade 9, students choose to focus on two of the arts, and in grade 10 students choose one of the arts for a full year)
- Language acquisition (Spanish, French, German)
- An interdisciplinary class (grades 6-8)
- Electives
- Life skills
- In grade 10, all students complete the personal project, an individual study of their choice
In the MYP, we build upon the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and prepare our students to meet the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Programme (DP). On their journey through our school, our students receive wide-ranging support from subject teachers, year heads, homeroom teachers, and counsellors.
